Instagram is testing a Lite app
With the continuous rise in popularity of Instagram on a global level, the number of users of this platform continues to grow. Although it is Instagram in Serbia experienced great popularity in the years behind us, in some regions and countries many are only now getting to know this platform for the first time, all because of limited access and internet speed.
The new Instagram Lite app
After Facebook (the big daddy of Instagram ) first launched the app in India in December, it was almost announced that the new app Instagram Lite be available in 170 regions. It will allow users who have a weak internet connection to use most of the features that this application offers.
Instagram Lite requires only 2 MB to download on Android devices, unlike the standard version of the application that requires 30 MB. And as such, it includes all features except for some more advanced tools like the AR filter.
Facebook explained that the scaled down version will serve to keep a large number of users connected. As they reported:
“ Just over 63% of the world’s population is online, compared to nearly 90% in North America. And many of the regions that can access the app don’t have the state-of-the-art mobile devices, robust internet networks, or large data transfers needed to quickly deliver large videos and photos on Instagram. For example, only about 50% of households in India have access to the Internet. “
That’s why India is the first region to get the new Instagram Lite app. Takodje, na ovo je uticala i zabrana of Tik Tok in India, so Facebook reacted quickly and in this way “took over” Tik Tok users .
Race for users
In May of last year, Instagram shut down its then Lite version, but at that time there were no clear explanations why Facebook decided to leave the big two-year project at the time. Given that they are major players in the market, it is possible for them to accurately predict the development of events on a global level.
A pandemic has happened, users are now even more looking for opportunities to communicate and connect, and therefore Facebook has relaunched the application that led to the development of this new, more advanced and compact version – IG Lite.
The new, updated app even supports Instagram Reels, which we wrote about in one of the previous blogs. You can read that blog here .
This could generally increase the use of Instagram, as well as the number of active users who are in contact through the application. From Facebook reports that they want the Instagram application to be available in all regions soon.
