Instagram boss says photos will get more focus on app in 2023<\/span><\/strong><\/h1>\n

As noted, Instagram has been pushing video hard in the past year<\/a><\/span> to compete with other platforms. Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram stated that Instagram will strive to make photos the focus again in 2023. <\/span><\/p>\n[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1676919865460{padding-top: 30px !important;padding-bottom: 30px !important;}” font_family=”Open Sans”]According to Mosseri:<\/span><\/p>\n

“I think in 2022 we were too focused on video and we pushed the rankings too far, and basically we showed too much video and not enough photos. We’ve since rebalanced, so things like how often someone likes photos vs. videos and how often someone comments on photos vs. videos are about equal, which is a good sign that things are balanced. <\/em>”<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Photos will remain a key focus for Instagram, and maintaining the right balance between Reels, Images and the like will be key in this regard.<\/span><\/p>\n

Users also noticed that Instagram lost its way in the last two years. It became too influenced by the trends of other apps (TikTok, YouTube Shorts), as opposed to maintaining what made it unique. <\/span><\/p>\n

Instagram became popular thanks to photos, users posted their experiences, events and it seemed like a kind of interactive photo album.<\/span><\/p>\n

New Memories<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

Instagram is testing a new way to encourage users to re-share their old posts, with the story prompt “Memory” now appearing in some users’ feeds.<\/span><\/p>\n

Instagram is testing a \u201cMemory\u201d story prompt, which is essentially its archive feature, just repackaged in a different way.<\/span><\/p>\n

So yes, it’s pretty much the second go at the archiving feature, while Instagram has had various iterations of this type of query in the app for a while now. But now, it’s giving users a more direct push to re-share their past stories, which is similar to Facebook’s “On This Day” prompts and could drive more engagement on the app. <\/span><\/p>\n
